Nextbase 522 Dash Camera

Dash Camera Fitting

Dash cameras offer protection on and off the road, equipped with features like GPS tracking, up to 4K recording, night vision, parking mode, and increasingly sophisticated AI capabilities like Nextbase’s Road AI.

When we install your dash camera, we adhere to legal requirements by placing it at the top of the windshield, out of the driver’s direct line of sight. We also hardwire it into the vehicle’s interior fuse box using the official kit for the selected camera. If you prefer not to have the camera hardwired and want to use your vehicle’s cigarette lighter, we can route the wire to it, ensuring that wires are concealed and out of the way.

In contrast, Halfords will only install cameras purchased from their store, while we will accommodate all cameras that have hardwire kits available.

What does it mean to Hardwiring Dash Camera:

Dash cameras necessitate a 12-volt power source, which is typically provided via the cigarette lighter port. This cable can be left trailing across the dashboard or concealed, but it will still occupy the 12-volt port.

Hardwiring the dash camera into the internal fuse box or the OBD port allows almost all wires to be concealed behind the dashboard, trims, and roof lining whilst freeing up the 12-volt port for other appliances. Hardwiring this way doesn’t mean or require hot-wiring of any description.

What are the benefits to hardwiring?

Parking Mode

Some cameras require being hardwired to enable features such as Parking Mode. This mode ensures that the camera will be ready to start recording when motion is detected.. Giving you added protection when you’re not with your vehicle.

Neater

Hardwiring allows almost all wires to be safely concealed right up to the point where it reaches the camera.

Free up 12v Socket

Not only free’s up the cigarette lighter for other appliances such as phone chargers or cigarette lighters but it also means it can’t be accidentally caught and therefore stopping it recording.

Universal Reversing Camera

Reversing Camera Fitting

Reversing Cameras are designed to aid the driver in observing obstacles or hazards while manoeuvring in reverse. This is particularly beneficial for larger vehicles such as people carriers, vans, or any vehicles with limited or obstructed views, where mirrors alone may not provide sufficient visibility. By utilising a reversing camera, drivers can effectively prevent damage and facilitate easier parking.

The market now offers a wide range of products catering to different needs. These include standard universal kits, integrated kits, and mirror-mounted kits that also function as dash cameras.

How are they fitted?

Universal cameras are typically compact and mounted above the number plate. Integrated cameras can be integrated into the boot handle or centre brake light, enabling them to seamlessly blend in with the vehicle’s aesthetics.

Reversing cameras are typically powered from the reversing light, ensuring they only operate when reverse gear is engaged. Integrated cameras can be powered in the same manner or via the stereo system if integrated into a vehicle’s display system. Additionally, dash cameras that serve as both reversing cameras and video recording devices can be powered through the cigarette lighter or an internal fuse box.

Drilling into the vehicle is required when fitting universal cameras, not only to fix the camera but to route the wiring through. This should be a consideration if you are uncomfortable with holes being drilled into your vehicle.

How can I get one fitted to my vehicle?

Most vehicles can be fitted with a reversing camera. Prior to booking any fitting dates, we will assess the vehicle to determine if a reversing camera is suitable.

This allows us to discuss the fitting process in detail, outlining what it will entail and what you will see when the camera is fitted.

Where can I get it fitted?

Due to the time required for the fitting and the removal of vehicle components, we do not offer a mobile fitting for this service. This service necessitates the vehicle to be in our workshop for the entire day to ensure a safe and timely completion of the fitting.

How much does fitting cost?

Integrated Camera Kits - £150

Stereo Fitting

Aftermarket stereos can provide numerous contemporary advantages to an aging vehicle, including Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth audio, and enhanced audio quality. Installing a new stereo system has become significantly more intricate and presents numerous challenges. Obtaining the correct components is paramount for a successful installation, but we are here to assist you through the process.

Single-DIN and Double-Din.

DIN size refers to the size of the stereo's chassis, and car stereos come in two standard sizes. Single-DIN refers to stereos that are two inches tall and Double-DIN refers to stereos that are four inches tall.

What's needed to fit a new stereo?

Fascia’s

Fascia panels, which are also known as fitting kits, are needed when replacing the original head unit with an aftermarket head unit. It can convert the aperture after removing the original manufacture's head unit to suit the standard din size whilst retaining the original visual appearance of the dashboard. Replacing your OEM radio with a multi-functional single din or double din head unit.

Certain vehicles, such as the Ford Fiesta or the Vauxhall Corsa, necessitate the removal of components from the aperture to accommodate the installation of a new fascia and stereo system. In certain instances, these modifications may render it challenging to reinstall the original stereo system if necessary.

Wiring Harness's

Aftermarket stereos typically utilise ISO wiring, a universal standard for aftermarket stereos. However, not all car manufacturers adhere to this standard and instead employ their own standardised connectors. Consequently, a wiring harness is necessary to adapt the vehicle’s wiring to the stereo’s ISO wiring, enabling proper functionality.

If the vehicle is equipped with steering wheel controls, a steering wheel interface lead is necessary. This interface will communicate with the vehicle’s CAN-BUS system to preserve steering wheel functionality, including volume controls, for the aftermarket stereo system.

The same applies to integrated parking sensors, reversing cameras, or amplifiers. Specific harnesses are necessary to maintain these functionalities.

Will the screen in my vehicle still work if I replace my stereo?

Certain vehicles, such as the Insignia or the Freelander, feature an infotainment screen integrated alongside the stereo system. Typically, these screens are integrated with the stereo and, when an aftermarket stereo is installed, may lose all their functionality. However, this issue can be mitigated if the screen is part of the stereo unit being replaced.

+ Any Parts Required

Identifying the Correct Parts

In certain vehicles, there may be multiple parts available, and in such instances, the only reliable method of identification is to remove the existing stereo system. For more uncommon vehicles, it may require trial and error to determine the correct kit. It is important to note that we do not guarantee success on the first attempt.

Therefore, we offer an assessment service that can take up to 30 minutes to identify the necessary parts.

Ordering Parts

Unless you already have the parts required, they will need ordering. We can identify the parts needed and either order them for you for just the cost of the parts themselves or inform you of the part numbers if you want to order them yourself and shop around.

Once parts have arrived, we will require the fitting to be done within 14 days in the unlikely event the parts are incorrect.

Car Speaker

Speaker Fitting

If your current speakers produce a dull, tinny, or crackly sound, or if you simply value an exceptional sound system, upgrading your speakers may be a worthwhile consideration. One of the most significant advantages of speaker upgrades is the enhancement of fidelity and clarity, allowing you to experience the music as the artist intended.

Speaker Installation Procedure

Standard door speakers typically measure 5” or 6” in diameter and are designed specifically for vehicles. To achieve a seamless factory fit, speaker adapters are necessary. These adapters determine the appropriate speaker size and eliminate the need for drilling or cutting, except for the potential drilling of rivets.

To preserve the factory connector on the vehicle side, a harness adapter will be required.
